Hi Rob's mom,

It makes me laugh (I'm sure you didn't mean it that way!) to think

that someone thinks I've been effective at diagnosing and treating my

son ... I feel so new at this; I'm just feeling my way along blindly.

There is so much I don't know and wish that I knew! I swear, by the

time my child is healed I think I will know all I need to know about

him, but I am so terribly frustrated that I don't know it all now ...

indeed, he would be healed if I did!!! I have made some awful

mistakes along the way that made his condition worse rather than

better ... our fermented kefir and cultured vegetables adventure last

year was one of those things. I now suspect it cause the d-lactate

condition.

Anyhow, to answer your question, I think it was a simple Organic Acid

Urine test that my DAN used to diagnose d-lactate. I wish I could

remember for sure. We didn't go out looking to find this in the test,

but it was found as a result of the test. These OATs are relatively

cheap tests. I would encourage you to take your DAN's advice about

testing for it - d-lactate is not something to mess around with. It

can lead to acidosis of the gut and pancreatitis, which is serious.

I can't knowledgeably comment on how SCD affects this directly, but I

don't think there's anything in the diet that would make d. lactate

worse. However, we were advised by our DAN to stop giving all l.

acidophilus probiotics due to this condition.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Suzanne
