Guest guest
Hello Bakersfield!! I'm from Manteca, we are almost neighbors.. Yes I have itchy ears too and a discharge. No one will do anything about it. At Stanford they just looked at me and said it was normal. HA!! I will be switching to Kaiser in November through no choice of our own and it does scare me. Hopefully I can educate them before we join. Welcome to the group and please ask all the questions you want. This is how we all learn. Looking forward to getting to know you better. hugs
Guest guest
> Hello, My name is Marilyn and I also have terrible itching inside my ears. I don't get a discharge, but the itching drives me up the walls at times. Every time I go to the doctor I keep telling him about this and he looks in there and just sees a small amount of irritation. The last time I was there I asked if there was something that would help and he recommended using a little polysporin on a q tip. I haven't tried it yet. I also take pred and I am on metho. Hello, I am writing from Bakersfield, Ca. My husband is 36 years old. > He was diagnosed with R.P. about 3 years ago. Guest guest
Hello, " annasgranma " My doc originally thought that my itching ears were caused by an allergy and prescribed clariton-D. Another doc thought it was the ear wax, which expands when moistened, thereby causing ear irritation. By the way, when the ear wax was manually removed instead of suctioned out, it caused even more irritation and a flare-up. Tobra-Dex drops were recommended. Also, water/peroxite irrigation to remove the ear wax caused a flare-up. I seem to have super sensitive ears. One of the docs prescribed ear drops, Neomycin, which seemed to help at first, but, later caused MORE redness and itching. It seems that 10% of the population is allergic to this. I'm part of the 10%! Finally, an ENT prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide ointment, 0.1% that I apply to both of my ears with a cotton swab. I've been using this ointment for 3 weeks, and it seems to be working best so far.....I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I know this has been lengthy, however, the point I am trying to get across, is to be persistent with your physician! RP is a mystery to the medical community out there, and unfortunately, treatments are sometimes a matter of trial and error. What works well for one RPer, may not work for another. Best wishes and remember to be persistent with your physician.... Guest guest
I also had TERRIBLE ear itching, to the point that I would scratch until they almost bled, and then - of course - they would REALLY hurt... They also had yellowish discharge. I was also told that it was allergy. So why didn't the allergy medicine ever help??? I didn't know that RP did that too. Well, another mystery solved! Actually since I have been on the pred., my ears haven't itched much at all. One good thing to say about it. (Actually today it's the only good thing I can say about pred. as I type this with my little swollen sausage fingers... --too much salty food at Easter :-( -- ) Kathleen (Tx) Terrible Itching > > > > Hello, I am writing from Bakersfield, Ca.
