Guest guest
I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about what I'm considering doing. has a scheduled appointment for a scan of her head in two weeks. That will put her at 21 weeks in her STARband. I had been considering asking for another month in the band at that appointment. doesn't mind wearing the helmet, but she does mind the appointments and absolutely HATES the scans (she gets so upset she refluxes). So... We are doing her brother's birthday party on the same day of her appointment. It will be hectic and so we discussed calling and changing the appointment. Now, I'm wondering whether I should just ask if we could move the appointment back a few weeks and then have that be the final appointment. I don't know whether it would be harmful to go 7 or 8 weeks between appointments given her age. I know what to watch for in terms of red spots and would call in between if we got them. I would also have to argue my case over the phone for keeping her in longer. I really would like to give her the full six months in the STARband and then call it quits with whatever we have. Also, does anyone know whether the STARband is good for 6 months or 24 weeks? In her case, 6 months would be 25 weeks and would give us an extra week. , mom to , 19 months 19 weeks in STARband plus CST land
Guest guest
I don't know about star bands, but I would check with your ortho. As long as your lil one has room, I think it fine, but call to double check. Good luck hun! Guest guest
, I don't know how much of the 6 month expiration date on the Starbands is because the materials break down, and how much of it is because the child typically outgrows it. I would think if the main issue is the latter, then it would depend on your child and it's likely that 25 weeks would be okay. You should ask your orthotist about it, unless someone here knows for sure. One thing I'd worry about if you want to go 7 weeks is that she may have grown and filled in the loose areas of the band (so it needs shaving), in which case it would really defeat the purpose to have her in it. I am thinking of this because we are going 4 weeks before our last appointment now (more on that in another post) and I am already starting to wonder if there is room left in the back where my son needs growth. One more thought: would it be possible to have an intermediate appointment just for them to look her over without actually doing a scan? Where we go they don't even have a scanner; our orthotist just does everything by eye, and with that metal measuring thing. Good luck! I support your decision to keep in the band as long as possible. > > > > I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about what I'm considering doing. > > > > has a scheduled appointment for a scan of her head in two weeks. Guest guest
Why not go for your appointment and skip the scan? They can adjust it based on seeing how it is fitting her. Then you can do to the scan and final appt later. I wouldn't want to go 7 or 8 wks without an appt. -christine sydney, 3yrs, starband grad > > > > I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about what I'm considering doing. > > > > has a scheduled appointment for a scan of her head in two weeks.
