Guest guest
Sandy, Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I'm so sorry that you had such a bad experience on the weekend. I've always been leery of that myself, especially at restaurants when the menu selection says anything about wine in the sauce. It's made me afraid to eat ANYTHING at the restaurant that has any sauce with it! This week I made my own homemade spaghetti sauce at the pleading requests of all my family. I hadn't made it since I got CP, because the sauce does contain some red wine (usually 1 cup), that is thrown in at the last simmering. I tasted it midway through the simmering process and it just didn't taste right without it, so I went ahead and put 1/4th cup in. Then I let the sauce boil back up and kept it furiously cooking 30 minutes more.....gulp! Then it simmered for another half hour before we ate, I mean I cooked that sauce to death and back! No tummy problems afterward, CP-wise. But it played HAVOC with my blood sugar levels! I avoid pasta, and have to by-pass pizza because of the wild BG reactions I get from all those carbs, but even though I dosed correctly for the higher carbs my BG's went crazy. I went into a severe low first (38) and then rapidly jumped into an escalating high, which I had to dose for twice throughout the evening to get it under control. I've learned my lesson, and know now that it's just not worth the hassle afterwards to eat those foods. I hope by now that you're feeling 100% better, and enjoying a happy holiday. But he also said to be careful eating this food as the pancreas can be sensitive to the taste as well. He was right. I had SUCH an attack saturday night that I was in agony for about 5 hours. I so wanted to go to the hospital because the nausea was so bad and the phengren and reglan DID NOT do anything to touch the nausea.
