Guest guest
Hello everyone. I have another poop question. My son has a history of having undigested food in his stool. Since starting the SCD, I have seen carrots and blueberries. I can also see what looks like nut butter but his stools are a good color and nicely formed. Does this mean he is not ready for these foods? I really don't want to hear that that is the case. It has been challenging to keep a two-year old on this limited diet. He is getting very tired of the intro foods and gives me a hard time at mealtime now, which he never did before. He says he doesn't like to eat now :-(. If they are passing through the stool are they really hurting him? Are they causing undue stress on the intestines since they are in the process of healing? Or is it just that he is eating the food but not getting much nutrition from eat because it is passing through undigested? Other people I know are using SCD in conjunction with enzymes and I really think this might help us. Please share your thoughts with me. You said: <<He is getting very tired of the intro foods.>> I have to ask why you are still on " intro " at three weeks? You can definitely move on from the intro diet. But... actually, it sounds like you already HAVE moved on from intro if you're already using blueberries. So... I'm a little confused....sorry. If you're seeing undigested carrots, I'm wondering if he is chewing them well? I know most kids that age are not so good at this. You might have to puree them. Some find carrots are not easily digested... and other vegetables are better options for them (Butternut squash? Zucchini?). In your case, it might just be a matter of preparation. Three weeks seems soon for blueberries. If you're seeing them passing through undigested.... I'm not sure exactly what you're seeing but blueberry SKINS and SEEDS are probably what tends to pass through undigested. Not sure these are well digested by ANYbody. Blueberries would be considered a more advanced food for that reason... unless you're straining the seeds and skins out after cooking. I really don't know about the nut butter. It might be that his stool is just resembling nut butter.... in color and consistancy. Not sure that would mean he's not tolerating it. Are you using nut butter in recipes... as just one ingredient? So, it's blended in with other foods? That would be best... and if so, it wouldn't seem likely that it would be passing through and still resembling nut butter. Depends on what type of nut butter, too. Some don't digest peanut butter well... and it's suggested they start with other nut butters. What they say is that anything that can't be digested can potentially feed the bad gut pathogens that you're trying to get rid of. If the point is to HEAL the gut, you need to give it a chance to heal. So, yes.... the undigested bits COULD be harming him. I'd say try to find a way to prepare the carrots so you minimize the chance of finding chunks of it undigested in his stool.... and really, I'd remove the blueberries, unless you're straining out the skins and seeds. You could cook them and mash them through a fine sieve... but it might be hard to strain out those really tiny seeds. Blueberries, steamed or boiled, then strained.... leaves behind a beautiful, sweet, blue/purple juice that could add flavor and color to apple or pear sauce, etc. Patti Another poop question Hello everyone.
