My daughter wore a starband for brachy and I don't think they ever had

to scrape the lining at the back. If they did it was just before she

outgrew her band. In our case it was her forehead that always got red

when she needed and adjustment, and that is the area where there was

finally no more foam to remove (when band was outgrown). Her band held

the sides (extra width) and she had very little growth there. I can't

remember how much foam was removed from there, but I don't think it

was much. That area was always red when her band came off, but it

faded to light pink during the hour the band was off, and we didn't

have any trouble. She did lose her hair the first month in the band.

For the most part it grew back after that, but those holding points

were always a little balder until after she graduated.
