Guest guest
Hi Vicky, I too have a hiatal hernia..my pancreatitis has all but stopped these days, but I still have bouts of the same type of pain that only lasts for a few seconds..the problem being is that this happens every time I take a sip of hot or cold drinks, and hot or cold foods. My GI said that it was more than likely my oesophagus (sp?) expanding and constricting, and that they didn't know why it would be doing this. I had an update with my PCP and told her about it also. She said that there is a nerve that winds around the esophagus, and that it could have been damaged during all of my pancreatitis attacks, just making it more sensitive. She said she had another patient with similar problem, and prescribed her with a blood pressure pill, which also acts as a calcium channel blocker, because calcium goes up and down the digestive tract and that worked for her other patient. The downside is that it can cause my blood pressure to lower and if I start to feel dizzy or fatigued, I'm to stop it immediately. I am a bit hesitant to use it because I've heard so many bad things about blood pressure tablets. She gave me a month's trial, and to be honest, I actually forgot I had them in my bag..guess it's worth a try though. One would think my GI would have known this as a possibility.
