Guest guest
I am no orthotist but a CI of 97.5% seems pretty high to me. The normal range is between 73 and 78%. My daughter started at 98.2% and I remember how self conscious I was about how flat and wide her head looked to me. By January, her CI was down to 93.2% and I could definitely tell there was a difference. I'll know on April 8th what her actual measurements are. Is your son getting a DOC band? If so, they are only good for 16 weeks, so I do hope too that he hits some good growth spurts. They say that brachy is the hardest and longest to correct, but hopefully one band will take care of it all. Leila Maysa, 14 months old, week 8 in DOC band 2 http://mymaysa.wordpress.com/ From: babymonkeyny <devlindumpling@...>Subject: Receiving 1st helmet 4/9/09Plagiocephaly Date: Saturday, March 28, 2009, 9:32 PM Went to get Luke's helmet fitted yesterday and his results for brachy are: Cephalic Ratio: .975, Cranial Vault: 4.5. He'll be 5 months on 4/8/09, so I'm praying that he'll have a bunch of growth spurts and good progress will be made within the 3-4 months of helmet wearing. The orthotist said that his measurements aren't too bad. Is that true? I'm not sure what is "good" and "bad", all I know is that he is above the deviation for the norm and that a lot of brachy kids start over 100.My husband and I were pretty torn up about the whole banding thing. But this group has helped me tremendously in educating myself on the "what if's". I was really emotional when I got home, but I have about 2 weeks to get used to the idea and I do believe that any improvement is worthwhile in the long run.One concern I have is that if Luke graduates in 3-4 months, will there be a chance for his brachy to come back? Especially since he is a die hard sleeper on the back of his head even though I have been repositioning him for the past month. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent this? He'll be 7 or 8 months by then, so he'll be sitting up by himself during the day and possibly sleeping on his stomach. But is there anything that I can do for the 3-4 months of band wearing to help prevent a future occurrence?Thank you!
