Guest guest
I have some questions about these things: Is it ok to give scdophilus with yogurt? I have done this a few times and it seems to be the only way to increase a dose of yogurt. Is the scdophilus killing the bacteria in the yogurt and that is why I can increase the dose? Or is is just helping to dispell the negative reactions which can be caused by yogurt? I know you shouldn't give enzymes with yogurt and scdophilus because it will kill the bacteria but how long in between yogurt and enzymes should you wait for doses? I am currently giving 1/4 tsp of yogurt. On enzymes, I know the ones I am giving are SCD legal and they are allowing us to add more foods to the diet but I am wondering if by using enzymes if this is still promoting gut healing? By adding food that I have to use enzymes with, is this inhibiting healing? Do I have a chance of discontinuing the enzymes at some point or are these becoming a crutch for my son's gut? Sorry for so many questions, I am just wanting to do the right thing.. Mandy
Guest guest
Mandy, Elaine always said we should use both... yogurt AND acidophilus supplements. I don't know of any reason why you can't give the scdophilus and the yogurt at the same time, but I have no explanation as to why it helps with increasing the yogurt dose. It might just be a coincidence. No, the scdophilus can't kill the bacteria in the yogurt. I don't know the answers to your enzyme questions... except that if your child has a very badly damaged gut, with open ulcerations, some of the protease enzymes could cause problems... although I am not very knowledgeable about that. Otherwise, I don't think enzymes are a bad idea. I don't know anything about the possibility of him becoming enzyme dependent. I would think that anything that makes food more digestible would help with gut healing. You might need to go to www.enzymestuff.com , or to the enzymesandautism list at Yahoo groups for more info on how to mix the enzymes into food for school... and how long the enzymes can stay active. I know some parents mix them into juice... or even into nut butter or something, and just keep the mixture cool (thermos, ice pack, etc.). Again, I just don't know enough about it. Not currently using enzymes here. patti scdophilus, yogurt and enzyme questions I have some questions about these things: Is it ok to give scdophilus with yogurt?
