We had a similar experience with treating an “older” child. Our

son Samson graduated (two bands, back to back) on his birthday at age 2. We

had great results as well, especially with the brachy as it is supposedly the

most difficult to correct.

He wore both bands for the full 16 weeks

allowed (they lose their strength/integrity at that point), so almost 8 months

in total. He went from the first right into the second with no break in

between, and graduated 2 weeks after his 2nd birthday.

Hey ,

My daughter Skye was banded at 15 1/2 months old. Our ped told us the same thing at her 6 month check up (it will round itself out). So I waited til her 10 mth appt (told same thing by dr and a specialist in town).....so I waited until her 15 mth appt. My ped said...."yeah, well I have seen kids whose heads never round out!!!" I was furious! OH GREAT NOW HE TELLS ME THIS!!! I finally took control and went to Cranial Tech to get their opinion. Skye has been in her DOC band for 7 weeks and we just had an appt yesterday to check on her progress. Great results!!

I posted some photos of her in the OLDER PLAGIO KIDS pics and I have some more from our visit to Cranial Tech (i'll post now). We live in Nashville. There are no CT's close by so we are flying to Chicago every 3 weeks for check ups but it is SOOOO worth it...expecially seeing some good results now at 7 weeks. We chose CT because of their results with older babies. Skye was a moderate case and I couldnt put her hair back in a ponytail without it looking strange. Now after only 7 wks I can...and it looks great! She will never have the same shape head as her twin sister (because I waited b/c of our drs advice), but it looks sooo much better than it did. I wanted to at least do SOMETHING while I could. Beacause she's now a milder case, the ortho felt we will be able to graduate the first week of June.

I don't know your exact situation, but I would at least say it's worth a look

from someone at CT to see if they think you need it! : ) I am soooo happy I got her in the helmet when I did.....even if it was at 15 1/2 months. Oh....another thing. I asked CT to rush the band b/c of her age and they got it ready for me in a week!!! : ) I loved that they were just as concerned about her timing as I was.

Hope that helps! Feel free to email me if you have questions!

Mom to Skye (DOC Band at 15 1/2 months---been in it 7 weeks now! :) )

,Than you for the reply. I know every child is different, but it is comforting to know others have started the DOC band process after 12 months with possitive results. I understand treatment can be slower with older babies. How long did your son wear each of his bands? Thanks,, 13 months - DOC Band candidate, 3 years> >> > Hi. Skye's progress pictures look really great. Her head has really rounded out quite a bit. The DOC band performs miracles, really.

Leila,

WOW!!! I just went to your blog! How exciting! I love to see that progress! I hope we can see that kind of progress! We go back for our last appointment in 6 weeks. I am hoping they will have that kind of side by side before and after shot for us when we finish!

SOOOOO COOL! Congratulations! CT is THE BEST!!!

What were your starting and ending numbers? I'm just curious.

And, how much growth did you get after 18 months?

,

If you are going for an exit DSi, then they should be able to show you how much she's progressed just by putting the initial DSi and the exit one side by side. I suggest you take your camera with you and even a camcorder or flip video to videotape it all.

Can't wait to hear about the final results in 6 weeks!
