Guest guest
Sherry, it is good to hear from you. I just posted the quilting instructions privately to you and then decided that they should probably be posted to the group again. Geez, I think my brain is only functioning at 50%. LOL You be sure to tell Shirley to GET to the DR. I know it is hard, but she has to do it. I'm thinking of you both at this hard time of year. hugs ... please copy and post this to all the members. It would be great to have our fellow RP'ers overseas and in other countries contribute too, if they have the time! Dear Quilting Volunteers: I have re-thought the quilt issue and here's what I've come up with. I spoke with and I think that in order to make this simple for everyone, each of us should build or create one or two 10-1/2 " blocks out of red, white, and blue fabrics. I will then do solid contrasting blocks and applique fun patriotic " things " in them such as flags, stars, etc., or maybe just keep them plain white on white fabric blocks. I would like the blocks to be 10-1/2 inches, so that when I put them together and take a 1/4 " seam allowance, the finished block squared from edge to edge is 10 " . If you do not have a quilters square up ruler, just build them to be closer to 11 " and I'll square them up when I receive them. You don't need to worry about any backing fabric or batting, I'll take care of all that when I put the whole thing together and will use my teachers discount to purchase the materials. Once I've received everyone's blocks, I'll sew the whole thing together, add some borders, do the quilting and the binding, take a picture and submit it to the website so everyone can view it before I send it off to Glenda or ... whoever volunteers to be " keeper of the quilt " and becomes responsible for the rest of the raffle work both within the RP foundation and on e-bay, or however we choose to promote and sell raffle tickets. If you don't have any quilt catalogs handy and know someone who does, borrow one for some ideas or visit your local fabric store and ask for help. I have mega books of simple patterns and blocks I would love to share with anyone who needs help. The block patterns for the most part, can be altered to enlarge or reduce in size. If you would like me to copy and mail some your way, please feel free to call me or respond to this email, and I'll get them out as soon as possible. Additionally, if you need any help during the process, please call me at home at or work . I know that Glenda and Dawn are fellow quilters, so I'm sure they can help answer some questions (hope I'm not out of line volunteering their help in advance). Please try to keep the blocks simple if you are new to the craft. I don't want to overwhelm anyone. If you have a creative mind ... go for it and do your thing! If you like to cross-stitch, feel free to create a cross stitch out of red white and blue and I'll applique it to a block for you. This will be fun and a fulfilling project for all of us who donate our time, creativity and efforts for our cause.
