Joyce, Whenever I have a craving I give in to it but after a few bites I

don't want anymore. Those few bites satisfy my craving. I do not deprive

myself from anything I want to have. The whole thing with me wanting this

surgery was so that I can eat in moderation and I can do that now. Not to

have to live on a diet like I have been for the past 15 years or more. Eat

and enjoy. Liz

Eat the chocolate. One way or another, it will be it's own reward.

I can't eat ice cream any more (dumping) but frozen yogurt is usually

okay. Some sweets bother me, some don't, but none of them tastes

different to me and I still have sweet cravings, but I am *very*

satisfied by what would have been a ridiculously stupid amount in the

past, like 1/4 cup.

I seem to get on 2 week long " kicks, " though and I think the last 2

weeks was a sweet kick and I'm over it now. Before that, I had a 4 week

hangup over vegetable-beef soup -- I could eat it day or night.

This week, I seem to be on a " don't really wanna eat anything " kick.

Joyce:

I know from Diets in the past that there may be two solutions.

1) Get some sure free hard candy and suck on it (chocolate flavor of

course)

2) There are some spray " flavorings " that you can buy and just spray in

your mouth when you " get the craving " .... I think you can get these at

most health food stores.

Good Luck

The RNY creates a tiny bird-sized pouch at the end of your esophagus

(cutting away just about all of your stomach). This is done up high,

near the aorta, so it is a dangerous operation for that reason alone,

whereas the MGB creates a smaller stomach by trimming down the stomach

itself to a much smaller size.

The MGB requires only one new attachment of intestine after 6 feet is

bypassed, whereas the RNY requires two attachments. This means you have

a much greater chance of a leak (which is one of the most dangerous

complications you could get), as well as future bowel obstructions.

Read Dr. Rutledge's professional paper (covering 657 patients and

several procedures) for a whole lot of other comparisons that show the

RNY has greater complications, lower weight loss, much longer recovery

times, is virtually impossible to reverse if it ever goes wrong, etc.

Just out of curiosity, why would you do either of these, rather than eat

the chocolate? I don't get the point?

Please don't take my word for it, though. The more you find out, the

better, from *every* possible source.

Go to any search engine and type in " gastric bypass " and start reading

all the websites, medical reports, journal articles, and patient

accounts about all the different weight loss procedures available. I

did that for *months.* I'm still doing it, because I don't want to tell

somebody wrong.

In my research, I found that there just really are no facts, studies,

statistics, pictures, or any thing else that demonstrate that any

procedure is as safe, effective, or as easy to undergo, as the MGB, but

it could happen that you find something I didn't. If you do, please

share! :)

Arm yourself with all the facts you can find about every procedure that

sounds even remotely promising, then compare them side by side.

Knowledge is power and in this case, it's your *life* we're talking

about here, so you can't learn too much about the procedure(s) -- get

all you can!

One thing this group is full of is people who want *facts* and lots of

them. This is a great place to raise questions and discuss what you

find.

Kind regards,
