Guest guest
we may have the same thing. we went for our monthly follow up for PT on Monday, he has a slight tilt to the left. we were pretty much " cured " and just doing follow ups for it. He was really tired and fussy at PT and we didn't notice it at home really. It still worries me. We are going to start doing alot more streches, I really don't want this to regress. The strecthes are so hard now days that he is rolling and resisting more even though it doesn't hurt him. > > My son (4 mos) just started wearing his DOC band three days ago and his torticollis, which had essentially been " cured " after 8 weeks of physical therapy, seems to be appearing again. He was neutrally aligned but has started tilting to the left again now that he is wearing the band. Has anyone else experienced this? >
Guest guest
I found with our son his Tort came and went, still does... He is now 14mos, started a Hanger Helmet @ 10mos, PT for tort @ 8.5mos. It is very frustrating BUT I stretch him everyday, no matter what. It is just our routine now, I sing a song that's long enough to get the stretches done and just keep smiling no matter how he reacts. He goes from his Left tilt to straight then goes Right sometimes... I think it is a comfort thing sometimes, feels " normal " to him and does it every once and awhile. Keep up the good fight Kerry Mom to Brody/14mos Hanger Helmet @ 10mos/17mm down to 6mm

Guest guest
Thanks for the responses. Have you found that your children have had any delay in meeting milestones (sitting, walking, etc) due to the torticollis? I've been told that this should not be the case by the physical therapist, but was just curious about your experience since I am relatively new to this. Thanks! > > I found with our son his Tort came and went, still does... He is now 14mos, started a Hanger Helmet @ 10mos, PT for tort @ 8.5mos. Guest guest
My son sat up late and crawled late but he is very smart and he's now learning to walk. Though every child is different. Guest guest
My son sat on time and " crawled " on time, though he only military crawled for months before he finally made it up to all fours. But he didn't walk until he was 16.5 months, though no one claimed it was due to the tort at the time. He was also late in talking, and we had him evaluated at two different therapy places. One ST didn't mention the torticollis as an issue, the one we see now though thinks his speech issues stemmed from the tort. He doesn't have tort anymore per se, but it causes a lot of low muscle tone throughout the body and it would appear that my son at least, had a lot of low tone in his face. He hardly moved his mouth to talk and then we he did start talking a little better, he would talk out of one side of his mouth more than the other (the weak side). His cheek still looked a little puffier too and I think that was from low tone. He's been in therapy for 6 months now and is doing great. Talking evenly, moving his lips and tongue the way he's supposed to be, and his cheek is toned up so it's not puffy any more. Looking back on it, when he first started walking, he had a funny hitch to his step and I was actually worried about hip-displatia (because it runs in the family), so I had him checked out by our ped and he said " it's just low muscle tone. " So there you go. It's not a guarantee that tort will cause delays, but it is a possibility. Just keep an eye out for it. Guest guest
Maysa, my second daughter also had torticollis and didn't roll over until she was 9 months. She didn't crawl until 11.5 months and started walking about two weeks ago close to 14 months. She still crawls now and then but she now prefers to walk. At home she goes from one end of the house to the other and back again. I love seeing her walk as all these delays really worried me. I am no expert, but I do think that torticollis had something to do with her not being able to roll over at 4 months like her sister did.
