Guest guest
Dear Fliss, Today seems a little better, so far. Yesterday was a drag all day, and since my GI's office didn't call back about my dosage mix-up, I was only taking one percocet instead of the accustomed two, and was really never without pain. I woke with it and went to bed with it, but it's not here this morning so that's a good sign. I do still automatically take the antioxidants. I've found the few times that I've run out and forgotten to reorder, that the pain levels do seem more severe. While they certainly don't inhibit all pain, hehehe....they do seem to keep it at a lower level than what I experience when I'm not taking them. I've been afraid to quit alltogether and see what happens since I'm afraid of making myself feel worse. I also notice that when I'm taking them I feel less depression. Debs and I have discussed this idea a long time ago. There was a time a year or so ago that Debs had declined into a horrible depressive state, she was hurting all the time and down on life and herself in general, and I asked her, " are you taking your Antox? " . She admitted that she'd run out and hadn't been taking them for some time. As soon as she started back up on them, she came out of her funk and started feeling better. So I did a lot of research about them at that time, and seem to remember that the methionine (I think) was touted as having some effect on depression and had been used, in combination with other vitamins, for patients experiencing depression. So I'd have to say that I'm a believer. My other GI also had scoffed at the idea of the antioxidants, even after reading the material about the Manchester research, and told me that antioxidants were just a waste of money. But I took them anyway, and am pleased that my new GI believes they could be helping. Since they are sold over the counter here and anyone can buy them, a prescription isn't required, so I do have to pay for the expense of them out of my own pocket, but I figure it's worth it. I am also taking diabetes antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, a combination that is supposed to help with glucose control. The selenium, vitamin C and vitamin E are also in my diabetes health pack, so now all I have to buy additionally are the beta carotene and methionine, and take additional selenium. Curiously enough, the selenium, vit. C and E are known to help the endocrine process and this combination is already approved for diabetes, so it's no surprise that research shows them helping the exocrine process as well! My expense is probably around $30.00 per month, but this includes the diabetes health pack, as I get some of the antioxidants, vitamins and minerals from that, too. So it is expensive in that regard, but I justify that by knowing that, for me, they do seem to be effective. The hardest ingredient to find is the Methionine, but fortunately Solgar does make it, so I've been able to find it locally. Now that you decided to put your TP on indefinite hold, this may be something you might want to give a try for a month or so and see if they help you. As I said, it's not a cure by any means, but I do think they help. I've only been to the hospital 3 times with my CP, and the second time it wasn't the CP, it was the diabetic ketoacidosis, so really only 2 visits in 2 1/2 years. Perhaps the antioxidants are part of the reason why I've been able to avoid the debilitating attacks that can only be treated at the hospital, who knows? BTW, I am a coffee lover, too, and still drink it on all days except the very worst. I don't drink half as much as I used to, but I still need two mugs each morning to get myself going.....hehehe...in more ways than one! I can remember when I was in the hospital for my knee replacement surgery as a teenager, I would insist that the nurses bring me my morning coffee. My system wasn't used to the pain medications they had me on, and it was the coffee that had a laxative effect on my system, so the nurses were only too happy to oblige! I also love those International flavored coffees, and now that they make them low fat and sugar free, I'll often have a soothing cup of the Vienna in the evenings. Fliss, what....no tea? It's suddenly gotten very cold here this morning (in the 20's), which is abrupt after a high of 80 on Monday, so this first cup of morning brew is very welcoming. Hope you have had a good day! If I remember correctly from the last time I looked into the matter, they are very expensive! Do you still feel they help?
