Guest guest
Hi y'all, My appointment to review my pain meds went well today. My GI decided that the morphine would be too difficult for me since I can't get it through my local pharmacy, so he's replaced my Percocet with Oyxcontin every 12 hours, with Oxy IR for breakthrough. It was quite a surprise to me that he decided to do this, but he's been trying really hard to find the right medication that will really be best for the control of my pain. He said that I was the only patient that he has that he's giving Oxycontin to, but he feels that he can trust me to handle it right......whatever that means!! I just started it tonight and so far have not noticed any side effects or differences from my other medications. I'm not sure when I could expect to experience any negative effects, if I'm going to. We discussed my continuing weight loss issues, and he agreed that it certainly wouldn't hurt to try the Viokase and see if this made any difference. Since the different prescription enzyme supplements do work differently, and some better for some people, others better for others, etc., I'm really curious to see if these will make a difference. I won't change until three weeks from now when my current script for Ultrase expires. We briefly discussed my going up to see Dr. Whitcomb at Pitt for the genetic testing, but I have decided to wait until after the wedding in the fall. I've just got too many other things going on between now and then, and since it isn't a crutial appointment, or something that I have to have an answer on right away, I think it can wait for several months. I will be going back in three weeks for an update on the results of my change in medication and dosing schedule, so perhaps once we get that straightened out, I may have a few months break where I'm not having to see the doctor every 3 weeks.
