Guest guest
My dd also has a crooked smile and jaw. Is the jaw slanted? Is it higher on the tort side or non-tort side? How does she move the tort side of her body? Look at old pic of your baby... are you sure there were not subtle asyms in the smile? I ask because my dd has a slanted jaw and we found out that she has spinal cord issues which cause her tort. I am not sure if her jaw is caused by the tort or if interuterine constraint caused it to grow funny. Our craniofacial surgeon said we would wait and see if as she got older it evened out. If not we woudl talk surgery later. Our Neurologist had us do an MRI of her brain to make sure there was no right side brain damage (she has left tort and her jaw is smaller on the left) but there was not. Then they did the MRI of her spine and found syrinx. All this to say, I am glad you have a proactive dr who is looking after your baby. I wanted to glet you know what we've been going thru so that you could see another baby with similar issues and the path we have been down. Feel free to email with questions. My daughter has been in her helmet for 5 months now and we have seen quite a bit of improvement to her flat spot and some improvement to her facial asymmetries. However, over the past 2 months, I have noticed that her smile has gotten very crooked. And it's the same thing when she cries. She didn't have any asymmetrie to her jaw when we started this process. She looks fine as long as she doesn't smile, laugh or cry. I took her today for her 1 year check up and her pediatrician noticed her jaw being off and made us an appointment to see a neurologist, which is freaking me out. He said he normally didn't see something like this happening in older babies all of the sudden. He didn't know what could have caused this, but we got an emergency appointment with the neurologist for tomorrow, which tells me that this could be very serious. Has anybody else seen this happening? Could this be caused by the band? She also has torticollis, which is not quite resolved yet, but has gotten better. I know we are going tomorrow and will hopefully find out that everything is fine with her, but I am really worried and wanted to get as much information on this as possible. Guest guest
I have heard that some babies have very severe facial assemetry but I would think that would have been from the start. I have heard of ears, eyes, foreheads being off or bulging. I wish you the best of luck in your appointment and keep us posted. Hopefully she will be fine. Does she have torticollis as well?
