Question about decorating with stickers

My daughter's Starband is pink and we thought we might spruce it up by

adding some clear backed stickers.

When using stickers do they stay on for very long or fall off easily?

Do you paint a clear coat over them to make them last longer? When the

stickers fall off do they leave a residue?

The plain pink helmet is pretty cute as it is and I want to make sure I

am not messing it up by adding stickers to it!
