Guest guest
Hi: I think you asked about latex allergies and the MGB surgery. I was turned away on July 24 because I related to my nurse anesthetist what I believed was a slight sensitivity to latex. I was scrubbed, just about to get my IV, and ready to roll, and Dr. Rutledge came over and told me that he couldn't proceed until they had solid information about the true nature of my latex sensitivity. He could still do the surgery, but they needed time to set up a latex free OR, and he couldn't do it that day. I was mortified, but hardly in a position to argue with the man! I rescheduled my surgery, and went home to have allergy tests. I am allergic to latex, and I had my surgery on August 9 in a latex free OR, with no problems. I hadn't noted it in my Patient Information form because I'd never thought of it as anything more than a slight sensitivity - the only time I noticed it was when I used a latex sponge in applying makeup. Anyway, proceed with confidence. Just let Dr. Rutledge know in plenty of time. Good luck! Blair
