Thanks for your thoughtful reply. My son has been on SCD for over four

years. We started the goat yogurt pretty soon after beginning the

diet. Other than the diet, the only biomedical thing we have done is

to use a Thropp's enzyme with most meals. He has also been getting

speech and OT in and outside of school.

His symptoms of autism decreased drastically when we switched from

GFCF to SCD after six months. We didn't know about SCD when he was

diagnosed, or I would have jumped for it. When we joined the list

there were about 200 members on " Elaine's Children " and one of them

was Elaine.

's huge sensory issues (major meltdowns many times a day, not

feeling the pain of a scraped knee, not being able to go to the

grocery store, etc. etc.) all but dissappeared after we started SCD.

He is still a tiny bit noise sensitive and still gets a little

overstimulated in large crowds, but is able to " deal " with it and

doesn't melt down -- ever!

was verbal when he was diagnosed, but only slightly and his

words consisted almost exclusively of scripting. He was in a major

fog, didn't respond to his own name, and was just plain grumpy all of

the time. He wasn't interested in toys, didn't do any pretend play --

you know the drill. After a very short time on SCD all of this

changed. still has autism. He has communication delays and

can't focus long enough times to really integrate into a full day of a

regular classroom. He's in a hybrid model - part of the day

self-contained with Aspie kids (he's NOT Aspie) and the rest of the

day in the regular first grade with a para. He is incredibly happy,

very verbal (probably a three-year-old level), is reading and doing

first-grade work, is more socially apt than a lot of his 7yo peers,

and plays in very " normal " ways.

Before SCD he had horrible yeasty, yellow/orange, fluffy BMs that the

doctors told us were " typical of kids with asd and not concerning " . I

was concerned. Almost immediately after starting the yogurt, the poops

normalized. They have stayed healthy ever since.

is a super picky eater, always has been, but that has been a

blessing for us because he's not interested in trying things outside

of what he knows well - no infractions! He eats the same things

everyday: boiled eggs, ground lamb or pork, goat cheese, baked things

made with nut flours (walnut, pecan, cashew) + veggies (squash,

carrots, other hideables) + bananas + eggs + cinnamon + vanilla). He

also eats an occassional applegate turkey hotdog. He drinks watered

down grape juice and pineapple juice and has one yogurt smoothy per

day (1/2 cup yogurt - goat to this point). He still does not do well

with honey - gets it a few times a year in birthday/celebration cakes.

So, after four years it is still very simple - but he loves it and it

works for us. I cannot imagine going back! I joined on the diet

about 6 months after he started. I have also stayed on it with the

occassional out-to-eat, but have had NO SUGAR in almost four years.

I'm a different person, even though I never had any digestive issues

(that I knew of) before then.

I've been off the list for a couple of years now because I went back

to work and just can't keep up. I'm grateful for the ability to jump

back in and ask questions, though. I gave some cow yogurt

yesterday and he seems fine. I'll be on the watch for any " signs " of

bad digestion, and will get some new goat milk as soon as it arrives

on the shelves.

Take care everyone and THANK YOU!!

son - 7yo, ASD, SCD 4 years and 3 months.

> Cow yogurt is a little harder to digest. But this is what Elaine

always intended for us to use. If you are digesting it well go for

it. The casein is rendered harmless in any type of milk when

fermented the SCD way for 24 hours. Expect a die off reaction though

if you are eating 1/2 cup to start with. Those who have time and can

go slow, usually add it slower.

>

> Don't let the die off scare you away from using the yogurt. Die off

looks will look like the flue, dizziness, irritability, some times

rashes.....and is not fun. It doesn't last forever though. But is

much needed to go through this transition to get to the other

side...so to speak. We went fast too. Didn't feel we had time to

loose. Came too sick and malnourished.

> The goat milk yogurt is always More drinkable. The cow is much

prettier to look at, more firm and cheaper.

>

> God Bless trusting the yogurt! I will pray for your success!

Antoinette (family of five SCD 2/06 thanks to celiac/asd and more and

healing when no other way worked.)
