Sulfur dioxide legal?

I have a recipe for apricot frozen yogurt that I wanted to make for my son. It

calls for dried California apricots. I found Sunmaid brand. The packaging

doesn't specificly say " unsweetened " , but the ingredient list only says dried

apricots and sulfur dioxide. I know that the sulfur dioxide is used to keep

dried fruits from browning. Is this legal? If the recipe turns out well, I'll

post it.
