Guest guest
Dear Laurie, I agree with your thinking. This is strictly my opinion based on my own experiences when my pancreatic stents have blocked. Yes, there is increased pain. Sometimes it starts slow and within days it peaks and you are doubled over, Other times it comes on suddenly, you just double over. But I have also found that my heartburn always flairs up a week or so before it clogs. I just figured that pattern out this time. This is the 4th time I have blocked. I have learned that pancreatic enzymes help control the acids in your stomach, so when you are beginning to block up, wholla... heartburn. Not enough enzymes to your stomach to work properly. The enzymes alone are reason enough for the stents to block up. Average clog time is 6 weeks. Sludge is even thicker and add debris in the mix and you have even more clogging power. So yes, this slop could cause a problem for your stent. The first stent I had put in during this series, always bothered me. The pain never completely went away, though it was diminished for several weeks. The other stents always provided me with complete relief after several weeks. This first stent was very small as the duct was very closed and he had difficulty getting it opened. This next stent, the one I have in now, is twice the size and it gave me almost instant dramatic pain relief. Yes I still hurt but it is getting better and better. The nausea diminished sooo much too. So when it is blocked, YESSSS it causes pain.... I don't know what caused debris/sludge, that is a good question. Good luck with your new MD.
