Guest guest
My son was brow presentation, so no forceps, but rather an emergency c-section ( his forehead was showing, instead of the top of his head when they checked me). I used to think this caused a neck issue and thus his tort. Now I don't really know what to think. They did ask me when I was at the Helmet Dr.'s office, if the birth was traumatic at all. > > I was curious how many here had a forcep deleivery? Our son got stuck when I was in labor, his head was at an odd angle and forceps were used. ~ 3 weeks I found a bump on the side of his neck, we had an ultrasound done on it and the docs thought it was caused by an injurty to the neck. So, he was diagnosed with torticollis. We did (and still do every 4-6 weeks) PT and the tort is resolved. But, we ended up with plagio. We have been in the helmet for almost 7 weeks and have seen great results we may only have a few weeks left. The specialist said he was probably sitting at an odd angle the last part of my pregnancy and the forceps did not cuase the tort. But, he seemed to move quite a bit the entire pregnancy. He wasn't a big baby in weight, 7 lbs 4 oz, but he was almost 22 " long. I am only 5 feet and pretty petite. Funny enought, at out last appt with our orthotist, we were taking to another Mom with a kiddo in a helmet and she had a forcep delivary as well. If we have another baby, and the doc wants to use forceps, I am going to do anything to have a c-section. I really feel like the forcep delivary imjured out sons neck causing the tort. > Robin > SW Ohio >
Guest guest
My first was a force-ups delivery but she has a perfect round head, had some brusing though. She was 7Ibs 2oz at bith. My second they used a vacume b/c i asked for no force-ups She was the one with tort and plagio. She was 8Ibs 5oz at birth. So not so sure the extra help in getting them out caused it but it could have. I am sure it was just b/c second dd was almost a pound and 1/2 bigger than the first. Hope that helps!
