Guest guest
Hello Tammy, I am so sorry you are gping through such a tough time. I do sympathise. It's pretty awful when you want to work but can't. As Laurie's post indicates, diagnosis of CP is not an easy thing. Several types of damage simply don't always show up. In 1988 I had an ERCP carried out by an emminent gastroeneterologist and also a CT scan. Neither gave any diagnosis of CP. Yet at the time I was desperately ill......constant pain, steatorrhoea, weight loss.....and I had had CP (as I know now)since the age of five!! My CP was not finally diagnosed until last year when a CT scan finally showed extensive calcifications throughout the pancreas and atrophy. I'M SURE YOU WON'T HAVE TO WAIT THAT LONG! TIMES HAVE CHANGED. I'M SIMPLY SAYING THAT NONE OF THESE TESTS IS FOOLPROOF FOR every kind of pancreatic problem. I'm sure they'll get there soon. Anyway, Tammy, I know that doesn't make it easier to bear the unpleasant symptoms. I'm not sure what treatments have been suggested? I'm sorry if you've posted this and I've missed or forgotten it. Diet? Enzymes such as Creon or Viokase? Pain meds? I also find that heat eg. hot baths, hot water bottle etc. help as well. Someone on another board recently mentioned aromatherapy. I do find it at least soothing to use my favourite scent (lavender) in this way....bath, bedroom, bedlinen etc. I do hope they will soon make a definte diagnosis, Tammy, and I'm sorry about the job situation. One consolation is that the course of the disease can and does change. You may go through a better stage. I hope so. Obviously it depends on the type and extent of pancreatitis you have but please don't lose hope! With good wishes, Fliss
