Guest guest
Forceps were not needed during delivery of my daughter but she was breech. An external version was done to turn her around and then the doctor scheduled me to be induced a week later. When I started pushing the doctor realized she was also face up and had to reach in and and turn her face down. I have wondered if that was the cause of her torticollis. Our son got stuck when I was in labor, his head was at an odd angle and forceps were used. ~ 3 weeks I found a bump on the side of his neck, we had an ultrasound done on it and the docs thought it was caused by an injurty to the neck. So, he was diagnosed with torticollis. We did (and still do every 4-6 weeks) PT and the tort is resolved. But, we ended up with plagio. We have been in the helmet for almost 7 weeks and have seen great results we may only have a few weeks left. The specialist said he was probably sitting at an odd angle the last part of my pregnancy and the forceps did not cuase the tort. But, he seemed to move quite a bit the entire pregnancy. He wasn't a big baby in weight, 7 lbs 4 oz, but he was almost 22" long. I am only 5 feet and pretty petite. Funny enought, at out last appt with our orthotist, we were taking to another Mom with a kiddo in a helmet and she had a forcep delivary as well. If we have another baby, and the doc wants to use forceps, I am going to do anything to have a c-section. I really feel like the forcep delivary imjured out sons neck causing the tort.Robin SW Ohio
Guest guest
My son needed vacuum suction during delivery and this caused him a tear and bleeding in his membrane. Not sure the exact medical term for this. Our osteopath told us his flat head was partially due to this since the damage blocked the natural movements in the area. Even I think the main culprit is that he slept too much on his back and also he was a pre-mature baby. Guest guest
My oldest son had a vacuum assisted birth and he has the roundest head of all three of my kids. My youngest had torticollis which I believe was because he was so big (10 lb 4 oz) crammed into tight quarters; the torticollis then led to the plagio. It just goes to show that it is not always easy to find the particular cause of a flat head or torticollis. Guest guest
In our case we had a normal vaginal delivery, but my baby was quite big with 8 lbs 4 oz and spent last months during my pregnancy in the same position head down and curled up. I think their wasn't enough room for him to move around or maybe he just liked his comfy position.
