Gosh, somebody else who was exactly 3 weeks post op just wrote me the

other day and your letters could be identical. I wish I could find my

reply to save me typing all this, lol!

It is PERFECTLY NORMAL to not lose weight the 2nd/3rd week!! :)

The weight you lose immediately after surgery is water weight. After

that, your body has to break down fat, a lot of which is then released

as water which your body will carry around to replenish the water weight

you lost that week of surgery! So you are losing weight -- actual fat

-- but the water your body carries around from it makes your weight seem

like you have not lost any weight!

It takes 2-3 weeks for your body to break down actual fat, then when it

does, it will *still* carry the leftovers of the fat (water) around

awhile anyway. Give it another week to start getting rid of the water,

too. It's a cycle that has to go its course to get started.

That is why you should MEASURE YOUR ARMS AND WAIST before surgery and

then in the 2nd-3rd week, when you are SURE you " aren't losing

anything, " measure your arms and waist again. You will find you have

lost a lot of inches and then you will know that the " no weight loss "

really is because you're just carrying around some water as your body

gets started in the " break down fat " stage.

You're fine!!! Everybody, including me, that I know who went through

surgery said the EXACT SAME THING at 3 weeks " I'm not losing! Is my

stomach too big? What's the deal? "

(Ask Dr. Rutledge -- your letter was *just* like mine at 2-3 weeks!)

It's okay! You're fine! Really!

Hugs!!
