Guest guest
My son was banded at his 6.5 mo and he has been worn the DOC band for 8 weeks by far. During our 5 visits, we did only 3 adjustments though the tech stated more than once that our baby is a fast grower. Yesterday, we were supposed to have a mid-term evaluation. But the tech was too busy to deal with it.After my insisting in getting my son's brachy data, she measured my baby's w/l ratio: 96% and 2.7 standard deviation.(no plagio data was provided b/c she's no time.) I was so disappointed about the result. We started from 98% (4.99 SD) and just got such an unnoticeable improvement in 2 months (his head grew 1cm ).I do understand that the improvement is case by case but I definitely expect more changes for his age. I would appreciate other babies mid-term data, esp. those babies who began their treatments at the similar age as my son. PLUS,the tech also said the mid-term evaluation is not necessary except for the recommendation of using the 2nd band.Is this true? Thank you. Guest guest
I've never heard of a mid-term evaluation. My son wore two bands from CT and never had a mid-term eval. CT typically does not meausure until the end of treatment (or when starting a second band). Forgetting the numbers for a second, what does his head LOOK like? Have you seen any changes in comparison to his beginning head mold at all? Growth is key in seeing improvement. Is there still a lot of foam left? It could be that you have another 8 weeks to go in this band (or close to it), and maybe that will be all you need to see the improvement you're looking for. Which CT are you going to? Guest guest
,thanks for your reply. We visit CT at Paramus NJ. I do notice his head shape changes from 2nd wk of wearing the band. But after 1st adjustment, little improvement has been made, though his head seems not as wide as it used to be.(eye illusion??)I guess that's why I put higher expectation on the evaluation data, which is more objective rather than my eye vision. My son's band has been shaved off three times at both his left forehead and the flat spot on the right back of his head. The rest of the foam has never got shaved. I believe my son is no doubt a fast grower. His head circumference has increased from 45.7 to 46.9cm ever since the treatment starts(big head,I know...)He's also gained 1.5 pounds and 2 inches in 2 months. So,I assume his changes should be more visible. > > > > My son was banded at his 6.5 mo and he has been worn the DOC band for 8 weeks by far. Guest guest
Jeanya, It seems like you like to look at numbers too, just like me. My daughter got in her 1st DOC band when she was 9.5 months old. At that time, her brachy was at 98.2% (scanned using Orthomerica Starscanner). About 2 months later, I took her for another scan. She had grown 1cm in circumference and her brachy improved by 5% and was down to 93.2%. Her plagio also went down from 8mm to 2.1mm. While in the first band, the back left side of her band where she doesn't have plagio was never shaved off. Only the front left and the back right sides. We did have progress pictures taken though 7 weeks into the 1st band and I could really see the difference in the shape of her head. You can see it here: http://mymaysa.wordpress.com/2008/12/23/progress-report-from-cranial-technologies/ With 1cm growth in circumference, I would be expecting better numbers as well, but again, with hand measurements, I feel like its hard to get accurate ones. I don't know what to say besides ask them if they would take progress pictures like the ones Maysa got 7 weeks into the helmet. They do a pretty good job taking pictures. Maybe you'll get a better feel then. Leila Maysa, 14 months old, week 8 in DOC band 2 http://mymaysa.wordpress.com/ (I apologize if the blog is looking "grey", wordpress is having issues!)
