Mercury fillings and pregnant!

Dear All,

Under normal circumstances I would have liked to have waited till the

first trimester was over to announce that I am pregnant. However, given my

health circumstances it would be foolish of me to not reach out for help at

the earliest. I am as of now 8.5 weeks pregnant, our first and probably the

only one because of my age (45 years near due date of mid Jan '07). I

subscribe to the SCD mailing list and HealingCrow. I am now specifically

asking my questions on the PecanBread web sitebecause it concerns autism.

I am a Crohns patient of 10 yrs and have been on the SCD the last 4

years. I did have occasions to cheat but was 100% a good part of the time. I

have had 2 small bowel resections and removal of the terminal ileum. To add

to it all, I have 6 mercury fillings in my teeth and got the Hep B vaccine

about 2 years ago (stupid doctor, stupid me who normally researches

everything beforehand, but I was in and out of hospitals in India just prior

to the 2nd surgery and got scared may have picked up 'something').

Well, it is the mercury toxicity that I am very worried about. I have been

reading a lot on the web since the last 2 days - DAN web site,

GenerationRescue web site etc. The bottom line is I could very well be

passing on the mercury to the baby through the placental barrier. I have

read enough to know that there is a great likelihood of the child becoming

autistic. ( I don't think I could allow the baby to be vaccinated!).

I am trying to come up with ways to minimise the risks. Should I go on to

a Glutenfree Casein free diet version of the SCD? I already get monthly B-12

shots, have 10 mg of folic acid (the ignorant Ob/Gyn asked me to take fish

everyday and unfortunately ate canned sardines each day of the last 20

days! I don't care he did not know I had mercury fillings - isn't this

something the doctors should think about!!?? I don't believe that even

malabsorption issues warrant such advice).

I don't know what probiotics to take - are the ones from Kirkman Labs ok

(I can order them from the UK - I am in Spain!). Should I get the Super Nu

Thera multi vit? What digestive enzymes should I be taking? Anything else?

They have to be ordered preferably from the UK, for a lot of US based

companies seem to have problems shipping them here).

I have been having problems w d since the pregnancy (but it could also be

a Candida issue, so I decided about a month ago to add oats and plain white

rice to see if it helped - it did ease up the d - no watery stools each time

I ate something - got tested for pathogens - all negative, blood work was

good). But now I am going to completely stop the oats because of the gluten.

I am worried about what I can eat if I go on to the GFCF version of the SCD

diet while I am pregnant. So today I did eat just the bowl of rice. (When I

had 2 scrambled eggs, cheese, and peppermint tea in the morning I had watery

stools again)- maybe the eggs are bothering but when they are mixed with

ground chicken for patties - no problem).

The Ob/Gyn did say that I should eat whatever is good for me because that

in turn will be good for the baby. So now I am not sure whether to continue

with just the rice or not.

Given my age an amniocentesis has been recommended but I read that after

the amnio they give a shot of I forget what (sorry) that contains mercury!

So now I am not sure about getting the amnio either.

Help, guys, I am in need of advice ASAP!

Thank you, and I am sorry this is soooo long.

Suneeti
