Hi Kathleen,

I've been on 15 mg of Metho/once a week for almost one year now. At first it made me nauseous and extremely fatigued the day after I took it. Eventually, after several weeks, those side effects tapered. I still feel really tired the day after but not as extreme as it used to be. Be sure to drink plenty of water the day you take it and the day after. That seems to help a lot. Since I work full-time I began taking the MTX on Friday night but soon came to the realization that I'd rather feel lousy at work than waste a good weekend so I started taking it Sunday evening! The only other side effect I've noticed that really disturbs me is hair loss. Not enough for anyone else to notice but I certainly do.

Now, on the upside, after I started taking the MTX, I didn't have a flare for over 5 months and my blood work started coming back normal. However, I really screwed up when I went on vacation in August and skipped a dose. Within a week of missing the dose, both ears and one eye flared up! So to repeat what Heidi is always saying, don't ever miss a dose! I'm still trying to get the flares under control. The other positive note for me is that when I do get a flare, they are much shorter in duration than before I started taking MTX (3 to 4 days vs. 7 to 10 days). I also take colchicine at the first sign of a flare so I'm not sure which drug makes the biggest difference but I suspect it's a combination.

Good luck!

Hi all!

I went for a checkup with the rheumy today and he said that if I can't taper the pred, he will put me on MTX. I really didn't like the sound of all the side effects... How many of you are on it now and what does it do to you? I kind of made a deal to start after the New Year if I can't taper as I really didn't want to feel terrible for Christmas!

Thanks,
