Guest guest
Karyn Seroussi made a study comparing SCD to GFCF a few years ago. The control group had children doing GFCF and the experimental group was doing SCD. Unfortunately, many of the parents were not fully compliant. I did get a chance to help the worst case outcome from that study and the diet of that child was not SCD:too many rules were broken. My belief is that we would have gotten a much higher success rate if there was better compliance..... I am quoting excerpts from the post of Karyn,it was posted on another list. ================================================================== Date: Wed Jan 28, 2004 12:45 pm Subject: SCD, BED, and DAN! kseroussi Hi Folks, As promised, here is a summary of my experience at the Think Tank. Ginger was able to compile the preliminary results from the ANDI SCD study in time for me to present the data to the DAN! docs and researchers. As we suspected, several of the children in the study group showed remarkable improvement during the 2-month study period, compared with those in the control group, who overall showed mild improvement during that time. About 80% of the parents in the study group have decided to continue the SCD. Most of the gains were seen in health and GI function, and then in cognitive and learning abilities. There were some children who regressed during the study, which supports our experience with pretty much every autism intervention. We didn't have enough data to draw any conclusions about predicting the responders. When the final numbers are in, I will post the study results here and in the ANDI News. Those in our study with the highest level of compliance had the best results, but those who reported lower levels of compliance also made great gains. ==================================================================== Mimi's note: Again,I want to repeat that the child who regressed had constipation and was not doing SCD correctly. Karyn sent the mother to me when the regression happened. That mother was feeding her child foods that were too advanced for a beginner and foods that contained SCD illegal ingredients. The mother just quickly switched to GFCF. Morale of the story:if you aren't getting good SCD results, please read the website and book again. Ask for help, don't give up on a great intervention!! I would have given everything I own to a doctor who would have advised me to do SCD when my kids were young. Mimi
