Guest guest
Hi, After much agonizing and trying other non-medication methods of improving our daughter's attention and focus, we have decided to give meds a try. The doctor wants us to try a very low dose of Focalin (1.25 mg). The problem is that the fillers in the tablets consist of starches from various sources and possibly some form of disaccharide. We have been following GFCF+ for 6 years and SCD now for 8 months. We don't want to jeopardize our child's gut healing and progress by giving her a pill with ingredients not allowed on our current diet. We already checked about getting it compounded and it cannot be done. So, my question is, has anyone who follows GFCF or SCD put their child on Focalin or some other medication with similar inert ingredients? Any problems? I am hoping the amount of starch in these teeny-weeny pills is so small that it won't matter. Any thoughts? Suzanne Woodland Hills p.s. I check my messages at the yahoo home page, so my respones to any emails may be delayed.
Guest guest
Suzanne, Elaine always said not to worry about the trace illegals in a medication that a child must have. We are to try as best we can to request a form with as few illegals as possible. And it's not always possible to compound... in this case, probably because the patent has not yet expired on that particular branded drug.
