Guest guest
It seems the physiology of the sphincter muscle if often confused. A " sphincter " is the defined term for a circular muscle group. Your have many " sphincters " in your body. The circular muscles around your eyes and mouth are sphincters. The cardiac sphincter is the tight muscle that lies at the opening of the stomach cavity; only called cardiac because of its locality to the heart. Your rectum is a sphincter. There are many others as well. Manometry is a rule of measurement to determine the pressure of such a sphincter. Think about the times you have placed a tire pressure guage into a car tire that appeared low and read the measurement. The monotromic reading of a sphincter are done in the exact way; with smaller guages thank goodness. When they cut the sphincter of Oddi like with a sphinterotomy it is very similiar to an episotomy that one might have done with childbirth. The stent will be placed into the sphincter of odi to enable the cut to heal so that it stays open. Using that same practice for an episotomy would not be so acceptable. I have been so pleased with all the people on this site. I have learned so very much, and hope to continue to do so. Treatments are different everywhere and it is very valuable that we talk about all such treatments so that we as a group can insure that we are all receiving the best treatment. Beleive me if anybody on this site thought anything going on with anybody with any physician; it would be well heard. We stand together to insure that we all are cared for well, that we all know what information is necessary in order to achieve the quality of life we deserve. I love that there are differences in the way some things are done. All of the differences added together equal knowledge, an opportunity to learn; and that is something we never; and will hopefully, never stop doing. Getting the stent pulled is not so bad sug; would rather be elsewhere, but its not so bad. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
