Guest guest
Hi , Point taken. I should have said " ...ADEKS isn't a *complete* multi. " I realize it has other vitamins besides A, D, E, and K but it doesn't contain a complete vitamin panel, nor does it contain any electrolytes and minerals except zinc. Roughly one dozen elements are missing from ADEKs that are typically included in other *complete* multivitamin/mineral tablets. The danger of this is that if you supplement one thing without another you risk creating a larger imbalance or deficiency. For example, they included vitamin D but no calcium, boron, magnesium, or phosphorus, which are all necessary for bone health. The body won't uptake vitamin D if there's a magnesium deficiency. Did you know that if you had blood drawn today to check your vitamin D level, what you'd see is not *current* vitamin D status, but actually your vitamin D status from many, many months ago? This is why it's so important to make sure all vitamin and minerals are covered, not just a select few. It's sad that the advent of ADEKs began as nothing more than a marketing ploy to lure people into using Ultrase and away from Pancrease. Drug reps will flat out tell you that years ago as doctors were coming out of med school, they had it imprinted on their brains that Pancrease was the gold standard for enzyme replacement -- because at the time, Pancrease was the *only* enteric-coated enzyme. When other drug companies followed with their enteric-coated versions, they faced an uphill battle because docs stayed with what they learned in med school. One way to overcome enzyme prejudice was to lure with freebies such as ADEKs and Scandishakes. ADEKs would actually be much more beneficial if it contained *only* water soluble versions of A, D, E, and K. Then parents could give ADEKs as adjunct therapy along with a *complete* multivitamin/mineral supplement. As it stands now, if you take ADEKs *and* another multivitamin, you might overdo some vitamins. So yes, ADEKs is a multi but it's an *incomplete* multivitamin with only one mineral. I believe an *incomplete* vitamin/mineral product is unacceptable for people who already struggle with malabsorping nutrients.
