Guest guest
Hi I posted back in March when my son was just turning 3 months, his head is flattened and uneven, more so on the right side. Our Pediatrician made us an appointment with Sick Kids (as we live outside of Toronto, Canada) but not until he was over 6 months - she said they wont assess a baby any younger??? We were told to do as much repositioning as possible and that's exactly what I've done - its been just crazy. My husband is so worried about putting a helmut on him. He thinks he's improved enough and we should stop worrying about his head. My mother and sister were really concerned when I showed them his head over 2 months ago but now because they see " some " improvement they want me to wait another few months see how much more improvement we can get. No one wants me to put a helmut on him - in fact I've been forbidden to bring up the subject. I have noggin' nest and memory foam all the house not to mention all the tummy time mats, toys etc ZERO pressure on the back of the head I was told! My husband is coming with us to the appointment but he's not behind me on this....also I've told my husband that I'm not even sure I want the helmut from Sick Kids and we may have to drive over US border to get the best one. I'll certainly talk to the doctor and see what they think before I get ahead of myself. Wish us luck and hey I really hope my husband and family are all correct that he has improved significantly.....but I don't see it. I'll certainly post next week to let you know how it went. This group has been a wonderful source of support and information for me - really made a big difference to us. Thanks
Guest guest
Hi, sorry to hear you're not getting much support from your family. Repo is a ton of work - much harder than putting them in a helmet. Also growth slows a bit as they get older and they get more mobile, so harder to repo. You may still see progress from repo alone, but if you're not happy with his head I would go ahead and band. Maybe you can post some pics of his head at present? My daughter was banded started at 5 mo and did great. I don't know why they would make you wait- there is nothing magical about 6 mo. Kudos to you for all your hard repo work, and good luck with the doctor. Let us know what happens next. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > Hi > I posted back in March when my son was just turning 3 months, his > head is flattened and uneven, more so on the right side. Guest guest
Hi- I just wanted to say that I understand your frustration. My husband's opinion that we should listen to the neurosurgeon and that my son didn't need a helmet was what kept me from banding him when he was 4-6 months old. So I let it go for a year and finally at 16 months old, I was at the point that I nearly had to say " I don't care what you think, I'm doing this. " I just wasn't going to let him talk me out of it again when I had one last chance to do anything about it. Fortunately, I was able to convince him and now he's glad we did it. I think it took the physical evidence to see that it actually worked to make the difference. I wish you luck convincing your husband. I hope the appointment goes well. Please let us know what happens. And I've love to see photos of Cal. Good Luck!
