Guest guest
Digital clubbing (fingers and/or toes) can be a symptom of lung disease or liver disease. The screwy thing is, some people with CF who have really bad lungs, say they don't have finger clubbing. And some people with CF who appear much healthier, do have clubbing. My son's fingers started clubbing around second grade. His fingers and toes are clubbed, but he's in good health. At the end of January 2002, he started taking MSM (methlysulphonylmethane) which is a pure grade sulfur source. In less than two months, I noticed improvement in his finger clubbing and his nailbed color was pretty pink again. Sulfur is one dietary component low in people with CF. Estelle Nash, an Australian naturopath, pretty much " cured " her children's CF with a specific diet she created. When I looked over her list of recommended foods, I noticed the diet was high in Omega 3 essential fatty acids, sulfur, and the flavonoid quercitin. So after my son got back that crappy sputum culture showing aspergillus and S. maltophilia, he started taking magnesium, MSM and inhaling tea tree oil -- and eating a high sulfur diet (brussel sprouts at least three times a week, lots of garlic, broccoli) and more salmon and cranberry juice. I'm currently revising the info that will go on a supplement page Bev is building on the pharmacy web site, but if anyone is interested in the list of foods, let me know and I'll send it out this weekend, or if there is great demand, I'll just post it to the group.
