Guest guest
I'm a " newbie " on the SCD diet and I'm having a tough time with it. Is it hard for everybody starting out or just because I'm weak willed? I'm willing to try ANYTHING that means I can take a proactive approach on something I can control and hopefully manage my illness, and I'm hoping I won't have to be on tons of meds. The thought of never eating another grain, no sugars, and no liquid milk is a hard idea for me to grasp, this coming in light of the fact that I thought once I had pull-through J-pouch surgery 10 years ago to cure what they thought was u.c., now turns out to be Crohn's in the small intestine and the pouch. The doctor just put me on 6-mercaptopurine and I'm scared about it. So much to try to handle in just a week's time...I keep thinking about the very dark place I was in when I had severe non-medically responsive u.c. and I'm dreading going back there now with Crohn's. I saw Dora's post about feeling crummy shortly into the diet, and I'm feeling much the same way--crampy, nauseated, etc....almost like a blockage is coming on. Has anybody else out there experienced this? I'm very scared and feel very alone; I can't really talk to too many people in my life about these things because nobody's been through similar situations so I'm hoping all of you can please give me some advice about how to best try to do the SCD diet. Is it hard not to " cheat " ? I know before beginning the SCD diet, I would just grab whatever because I was hungry and it was available; it's a hard new discipline to truly start watching what I eat.
