LET'S DO THIS THING! I won't bug you again after this.

If you are interested in seeing the Senate pass Resolution S98

declaring Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Week across the U.S. October 12 -

18, 2003, now is the time to contact you senators and ask your

friends and family in the U.S. to do the same.

This came from Senator 's office this morning:

Lenora - Just wanted you to know that last week we had an intern call

all Senators on the resolution...several sounded interested and

Schumer of NY signed on. Grassley has expressed interest. This

could be a good time for your network to contact their Senators

regarding the resolution. How has your summer been? Hope all is

going well for you. Vivian

Yea New York (Schumer, anyway) hey-where's Hillary!?!?

Here is a simple version of a letter for anyone who wants to use it.

Dear Senator _,

I am writing to respectfully urge you to co-sponsor a resolution (S

98) that is very important to my family.

The resolution declared National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Week and

it is a wonderful opportunity for us, along with the 30,000 other

families coping with CF in the country, to help educate the public

about this disease. 10 million Americans are unknowing, symptomless

carriers of one of the genes for cystic fibrosis. There is no cure.

Knowing more about CF can help people become more tolerant and

understanding of the differences in other people. CF Awareness Week

can be a good opportunity to educate children (and adults) about the

importance of lung health and nutrition (CF affects both the

respiratory and digestive systems). It can also be tied in to organ

donation, as lung transplants are being performed more and more for

people whose lungs are too deteriorated to benefit from treatments.

It can also encourage people to volunteer for one of the

organizations whose goal is to research a cure for CF.

Very importantly, raising awareness can help families avoid

mis-diagnosis or non-diagnosis if they see symptoms in their child or

grandchild.

Finally, awareness week can help families like ours live a little

more normal life.

_put your relationship to CF here______.

Closing,

Sincerely,

etc.

GO HERE TO FIND YOUR SENATOR AND WRITE HIM/HER DIRECTLY.

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

One really nice thing is that this is non-partisan. So far, the

supporters break out about 50/50 Dems and Repubs. Nice we can agree

on something.

For more info on the resolution, so to http://www.cfawareness.org and

view the resolution, etc.

Love, love to all. Remember the friends who were here at the

beginning who cannot ne here now to make this happen. And those of us

who were and are still here, like April with her new lungs!

Lenora
