Guest guest
Hello all. I am seeking support and wondering if pancreatitis is really what I have. I had acute pancreatitis at age 10 after having the mumps and was VERY sick. I had undiagnosed abdominal pain through much of my childhood. My family doctor finally diagnosed me a few years ago with recurring pancreatitis, when I got very sick after drinking a small amount of alcohol. I have had several flare ups since then, some for no apparent reason, one after having about 1/4 of a glass of wine. When I get a flare up, I have terrible pain in my mid-left upper abdomen. It is worse after I eat, and sometimes goes through into my back. When I eat, I belch continuously and sometimes have nausea. The only thing that helps is to stop eating for several days then to start back on low fat and low protein foods. Pancreatic enzymes also seem to help - not with the pain, but with digestions. I don't have any vomiting (as I did when I waas 10) and rarely have diarrhea. I have had my enzyme levels taken a couple of times and they were within normal range. I also had an abodominal ultrasound, which didn't show any inflamation. Does this sound typical? I feel very frustrated and a little unsupported by my doc.
