Guest guest
Bert, I am sorry I am just getting to your post. I am forever behind, it seems. You are NOT a wimp! Good grief, you just went through a VERY major surgery and may now be facing complications. Please, please do not put off going to the doctor. It is possible that you may have something that can be corrected with a relatively simple surgery (not that any surgery is fun). I know it is hard to remain optimistic with all you have been through, but please try. The one thing I do know about liver problems is that the sooner addressed the better. When your liver enzymes (AST/ALT) are elevated it simply means that your liver cells are dying at a rate faster than they should be dying at that time. While your enzymes are certainly high enough to warrant attention, they are not high enough to evoke panic. You are right that an alk phos as high as yours does point to a bile duct obstruction, but that may or may not be the case. As for the AST/ALT, sometimes just pain meds, tylenol, or antibiotics can temporarily elevate your liver enzymes. Not trying to make light of your situation, just trying to offer some possibilities that may not be so bleak. Please take care and keep us posted.
