Guest guest
Thank you, KATHI GOODWIN, for recommending the book, Coping with Prednisone. Buying this book was the best $13 I've ever spent! I only wish that I'd had this book when I first started taking Prednisone. I could relate to everything the author wrote. I spoke with my new rheumatologist yesterday about this book, and he agreed it was some of the best information available. As we walked out of the exam room, he took the book and made a copy of the cover to give to other new patients. Like most of us in this group, I'd never been really sick before in my life until RP and was not well-informed on long-term prednisone use and its effects. I started working with the director of nutrition at a nearby hospital last August to help me get my weight under control (this was a free service), but it would have been so much easier if I'd met with her before I gained the weight. There's a lot of focus on diet, exercise (lots of stretching), and understanding the mental and emotional changes that occur Prednisone use, plus the importance of tapering off wisely. "Eugenia" had her sister, an M.D., co-author the book so it's backed up with sound, medical advice and explanations. , there's even a plug for the Medic Alert bracelet. I just ordered mine! If you don't want to purchase the book, your local public library should have it or can get it. It's by Eugenia Zuckerman and R. Ingelfinger, M.D. (published by St. 's , New York). Again, thank you so much, Kathi, for bringing this book to our attention. (KC) --
