I have a question about Dilaudid that has been eating at me for

several years and I cannot get it answered by any doctor and cannot

find anything in my research.

CAn IV Dilaudid cause any type of a painful venous spasm? The

following is what has happened to me:

The first time I had it was at MUSC. It caused such pain everytime

they gave it even diluting it. It wasn't pain at the injection site

but pain up in my neck and shoulders like somebody was crushing

those bones up there. The first time it happened I thought it was

may phelbitis again because I would always get it in the veins.

The second time I had it several yeras later here at home the same

thing happened. I am talking abou crushing pain that feels like

somebody is breaking my collar bone.

I tried it a third time about two yeras ago and after that I said no

more and have added it to my " allergies " list.

I have had many vein problems and I have completely occluded

brachiocephalics and did have a vena cava stricture htat was

successfully repaired with angioplasty but the others are completely

blocked. The only thing I can come up with in my head is some kind

of venous spasm up in that area. I am wondering if it has also

something to do wiht all the venous damage and the fact that the

subclavian veins are almost destroyed, etc. etc. That is the only

thing I can come up with. If anybody has any insight fill me in!

The docs say they have never heard of it but they don't have any

other explanation. Its not a burning like when you get Phenergan it

is a breaking crushing like somebody is crushing the collar bone!

Never again will I ever take IV Dilaudid and I am allergic to

morphine and afraid of Demerol because of almost having a seizure.

Makes for pretty hard pain control in the hospital!

Help!
