yogurt starter/probiotics confusion

Ok, I have to say that I have been doing some reading. And, I am really

confused - follow along with me...

www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info says the following about yogurt to use as a

starter: The yoghurt you buy can contain Lactobacillus Acidophilus,

Streptococcus Thermophilus, and Lactobacillus Bulgaricus. It must not

contain Bifidus/Bifidum bacteria.

A new book that I started reading today _Probiotics Nature's Internal

Healers_ has some interesting things to say about the " banned " bacteria.

For example: ...Bifidobacteria bifidum, common to your large intestines.

These friendly bacteria not only produce and liberate numerous beneficial

substances, including vitamins, amino acids, antibiotics, and other

antimicrobial substances, but they are necessary for maximizing the

absorption and utilization of nutrients.

And this caught my interest in particular: ...Bifidum probiotics formulated

with the Malyoth super strain are recommended for overall support, large

intestine therapy; liver detoxification; food, chemical, and environmental

sensitivities, microbial or fungal overgrowth syndromes; chronic immune

suppression; dysbiosis (toxic bowel and/or toxic liver); nutrient

malabsorption; B-complex deficiencies; inflammation of the large intestine;

breakdown of bacterial enzymes and/or potential cancer-causing agents;

support during and after the use of antibiotics, steroids, chemotherapy,

antimicrobial herbs such as echinacea, goldenseal, and garlic, bulking

agents, and intestinal cleansing programs; and diarrhea and/or constipation.

I can't seem to find documentation in the BTVC book or on the site as to WHY

Bifidus/Bifidum are bad. I am obviously missing something. But, the well

cited souce that I have now seems to be saying that Bifidus/Bifidum are

essential.

I need some help in clarifying this. Anyone want to lend me a helping hand?

Thanks,

Jazz
