Guest guest
A friend of my sister in law had injured his arm at work, and after many surgeries, was accepted on SSI. He was on it for quite a few years, but he did start getting strength and movement back in his arm, and over time, he was able to go back to some form of work. When he notified SSI of the fact that he had gradually gotten the use of his arm back and wanted to stop his SSI and go back to work. His payments were stopped immediately, and a few weeks later, he was sent a letter informing him that legal action was being taken against him to recoup all the payments he had received from SSI, because he could in fact work. I don't know if this has gone to trial yet, but wonder if anyone else has heard of this happening. This was just brought to the forefront of my mind when I read the post about going back to work. This action by SSI to me says, they were in the wrong in the first place to approve his payments if they are saying he didn't qualify for them by their standards....seems like they want their cake and to eat it also.
