I am afraid I can't volunteer - at school they made me take out my tacking as it was so untidy!! I have what I consider an excuse. When I was a small child (4 or 5) I was absolutely fascinated by my mother's sewing machine, I used to watch as she guided the material through (it was an old manual Singer, and we are talking about a long time ago). I always wanted to try, but obviously she had more sense than to let me at that age! One day she went to answer the door, saying " now don't touch the machine " . I (who was always a know-it-all) decided I would try, and promptly ran the needle into my forefinger. I have never touched a sewing machine since!!lol Plus my poor Mum had to make the agonising decision about which way to move the wheel in order to raise the needle rather than impale me further!! I survived, but I remember that it did hurt a lot!!! What goes around comes around!
