Their nutrients and water leave, so think of them as " deflated fat cells " after you lose weight. They are always there, lurking, waiting to be filled up. Grrrrr. That is why it is *so* easy to gain weight back after dieting. The body doesn't have to actually make any new fat cells, it just has to fill up the ones it already has. That is why *liposuction* is really the only thing that will permanently get rid of the fat cells themselves. It is also one of the reasons why we see a lot of what we call " hanging skin " after a big weight loss (It's not all skin).
