Guest guest
Welcome- Banding is just a verb that I (and others) use to give a name to the process. It sounds better than " helmeting " or the longer " I am getting a helmet for my son/daughter. " Cranial Tech makes the DOCBand, which is the most band-like helmet on the market, because there is more of it cut away (in most instances) so it's not quite as bulky as some other helmets. I have not heard of Arimed in NYC, but we used to have a number of moms from the NYC area. A lot of them made the trip to Paramus for CT. I would do a search of old messages (using Arimed as the key word) and maybe you'll get some info that way. Otherwise, hopefully someone with first-hand experience will chime in. (I added NYC and Arimed to the subject line so it jumps out easily). If not, I would recommend checking on the qualifications of the ortho at Arimed, it would be ideal to have someone that has an experienced background in banding and works with a lot of plagio babies on a regular basis. DOCBands are made by Cranial Tech (http://www.cranialtech.com/) STARBands are made by Orthomerica (http://www.orthomerica.com/products/cranial/cranialindex.htm) and Hanger Bands are made by Hanger (http://www.hanger.com/). STAR and Hanger are very similar to each other in appearance, and all three work on the same principles (holding the prominent areas of the head in place while allowing the flatter areas to grow). We have a bunch of information on each one in our Files section. The Boston Band, as far as I know, is only made in Boston, so that wouldn't really be an option for you. There are other helmet companies out there, and some independent orthos, but those are the top 3. Hope that helps some. Feel free to ask more questions any time! It's under Our Plagio babies-L Luke-right, Luke-right2 and Luke-left. > > I had a long labor and delivery and he came out with a pointy head that has developed into a definite flatness in the back. I think he had some torticollis when he was born too and slept face up even when I tried to reposition his head until recently. > > My ped told me at his 4 month appointment to wait until his 6 month appointment, but my gut is telling me that a helmet is the only way that will correct this problem and prevent future issues. After many emails and phone calls, he finally agreed that he thinks Luke can benefit from wearing a helmet (he's 4.5 months old now). > > Questions: > Is there somewhere that I can find out what is " banding " as opposed to helmets? (or are they the same thing)? > > Has anyone dealt with Arimed in NYC? Postive, negative thoughts? > > There is a cranial tech in paramus, NJ. Are they the best to go to? > > Is there somewhere that I can find out the difference between DOC bands, Star band, Hangars, Boston bands? (I've been trying to follow the group emails, but I can't figure out which would be best for my son:) > > THANK YOU so much!
