Guest guest
Hi Holly! Congratulations on your success with the PCP. You wrote, " ....my PCP... supports my decision and is writing me a letter.... He said he hasn't been overly impressed with the success he has seen from the RNY because the patients he have seen stretch their pouch out and gain weight back. So, here is my question....what keeps us from stretching our new pouch back out? " In my research I remember reading that earlier in the 'surgery pouch' history pouches sectioned horizontally experienced stretching (Fobi to put plastic mesh around the pouch to prevent stretching, hence the 'Fobi pouch.') Despite much success, one of the issues was the introduction of synthetic material into the body. Someone determined the inner curve of the stomach was thicker and more resistant to distension, so any pouch which would make use of that portion of the stomach wall might be more resistant to stretching. I assumed this might be one of the reasons Dr. R uses this wall portion with his pouch. I just remember reading this in my travels on the internet, I don't know if it's true or not. Dr. R, if you read this please correct me if I'm off base. Regards, Judith in Seattle, WA Considering MGB too
