Guest guest
Deanna, No, I haven't checked for any additional help. We do have good insurance coverage at the present time, which will be fine as long as my husband stays employed by his airline. Because of his present income, there's no doubt that we would be ineligible for any kind of assisted pharmaceutical programs. Once he goes into mandatory retirement in 7 years, though, or if he gets laid off like many of his peers have, our insurance will be canceled! With that in our future, naturally I'm very worried. We aren't sure what kind of insurance we could get that would cover me. Apparently if I am approved for SSDI, then I can apply to Medicare for additional coverage, but only if I get the disability. The expense that I'm talking about is what we're paying as our co-pay only, that tremendous monthly amount is no where near what the actual costs are. I know that just my enzymes alone cost about $260 for a 2 week supply, my co-pay is $30.00. Last week I picked up new needle tips, a two week supply of enzymes and a box of syringes, my co-pay was $90 just for that. I'm on several different kinds of medication for the CP, diabetes and thyroid condition and have monthly diabetic supplies, too. Unfortunately, both my Endo and my GI are out-of-network, but there's no one else. My Endo is the only one in this area, and the in-network GI is the one that I fired last year, so I have no choice now but to go out-of-network and pay more for my medical care. I'm glad that you were able to find a program there in NM that can help you with your meds purchases. I know that once retirement hits, or Bob is laid off, we'll be searching for assistance, too.
