RECOVERY

I hope some of you can help me.

I recently had a dual sphincterotomy with stent placement. I was in

the hospital for 5days. I did fine for 4 days and then had

significant pain and I was admitted for 6 days. The doctor removed

the stent the next day after the 2nd admission. I am off work for

short term disability. I was discharged from the hospital on

12/22/03 with instructions to be on a full liquid low fat diet until

my follow-up appt on 12/30/03.

I am still having a lot of pain with doing the minimal of every day

activities. Just walking downstairs to take a shower causes so much

pain that I have to rest for 1-2 hrs to recover.

How long does it take to recover from this procedure?.

Any info would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Patty J

Patty,

I have never had the procedure you are discussing, however... I have had pain so

bad sometimes that the shower thing is a problem for me too. I have had to have

my mother watch the kids, while I sit with the heating pad on my stomach. I

have had to wait for hubby to get home so I can take a shower with his help. I

feel for you, I can truly say I have been through this myself. I have been

having a really bad time of it myself this past week. Are you taking any pain

medicines? Have you tried the heating pad? It may sound strange but it really

helps allot! I am very thankful that Kimber or Heidi told me to try it. I also

believe that some people alternate the heating pad with an ice pack. Try taking

the pain meds and sitting with heating pad, and I usually place a feather pillow

over that to give me something to hold on to. You know that old hospital trick

to use a pillow after surgery really helps sometimes too. I hope you feel

better and good luck with the Dr's f-up visit.
