Guest guest
This time next week Lincoln will start the helmet process. They called yesterday and said the band would actually be in today and that I could come and get it on but I didn't have a way to the office today so I had to keep the original appt of April first. I am still looking around online for how to decorate his helmet. Whatever I do i want it to be temporary cause I would like to change it easily and whenever I want to. I am looking around online for some stickers and have found a small few that I actually like and wont make his thing look cluttered. I bought some modge podge cause thats what I read you put over things to get them to stay and I also bought some clear nail polish cause i read that that will help stickers stay temporarily. I think i am more nervous about the whole thing now that its getting closer. I just hope he will deal with it fast and it wont make him upset. My Zayden has an appointment on the same day for a check up! RE: Decorating - Our Cranial Tech. Clinician said to use acrylic paints to decorate and to ONLY use the Modge Podge sealer for it; some other Moms used varnish (yikes) but she agreed with me that it is far too caustic to be on a babie's head 23/7. A few things I learned while painting my boy's helmet: 1.) Don't let the paint dry before pealing the painter's tape, otherwise it just peels the paint off with it! And it it gets on the foam inside it is very hard to remove. 2.) Use a smaller synthetic brush (maybe 1/2 inch - 1 inch) to apply the Modge Podge or else it leaves a textured, streaky surface (unless you want the textured look; I kinda liked it by the end of it). I was told to use the sponge applicators which ened up being too messy, but it works for applying the paint. 3.) Let the paint dry thoroughly between coats or else it peels what you have already painted. 4.) The interior/exterior paints and Modge Podge work best. 5.) Don't rush!! Take your time otherwise you end up with a crying baby while you're trying to rush and you feel horrible that all of your time and effort went down the drain, or at least I did! Hope that helps. The first few days are best to paint since you are taking the helmet off from time to time for spot checks - wish I would have done so!!
