Guest guest
I'm assuming that you're cleaning the helmet with the alcohol. Try the strongest stregnth that is tolerated. We use 91 percent although some have posted that they were told only to use the 70 because it would irritate the skin. I have sometimes cleaned the helmet a second time in the morning when I take it off to get dressed. I take it off and clean it first so that it'll be dry shortly after her clothes are on. It is a little extra time with it off, but I find that the helmet will dry in 5 to 10 minutes for me. In fact, there have been a few times where we've missed her evening bath because we are out late (usually Mondays because of a Mommy and Me gymnastics class). On those nights, I makes sure that I clean the helmet morning and night for the day before and after and we usually do okay. We use the 's baby shampoo and have been fine. Giving her the nightly bath has been a challenge ever since her brother poured the water over her head. I alternate between getting in with her and giving her a baby doll and dishes to pretend to feed the doll. She cries while I wash her hair, but the amount of crying depends upon how cranky/tired she is. Lately, we are doing pretty well. She is usually getting in the tub on her own as soon as I put the doll and dishes in. As much as I fought to keep her in the helmet the whole six months, I will be happy when we no longer have to wash her hair daily. The countdown is one - five more weeks to go as of yesterday. The challenge of keeping the stink out is probably going to be harder for you because the summer months are coming up. Do you live in a hot climate area? , mom to , 19.5 months 20 weeks in STARband plus CST land Hair Smelling like dirty feet even after washing hair Saturday was Lincoln's first 23 hour on 1 hr off day. Now when I am taking his helmet off his hair spelled like sour throwup (my husband said it smelled like body odor) so we bathed him and washed his head good and left it off for the hour. We put some hydrocortizone on his forhead cause he had 2 little spots that looked like the start of heat rash and thats what my hand out said to do for heat rash but his hair stilled smelled and this morning I took it off for a half hour tops to check his spots and it smelled all over again and he didnt wake up as sweaty as normal just a little sweat on one side of his forhead. I cant change soaps because he has bad ezcema and so we have to use this huggies non scented hypo allergenic stuff that normally makes him smell great. What can I do to make him not smell?? Guest guest
We clean out son's band twice a day with 91% alcohol, he doesn't sweat in the band but does have a tone of curly hair and no matter what his head is still stinky.... I have tried all different kinds of shampoo to no avail. I have been assured that once the helmet comes off for good the smell goes away quickly. One shampoo that is a little expensive but smells oh so delicious is noodle and boo http://www.noodleandboo.com/ again, it is a little pricey but the baby head smell is so worth it! Hang in there, smelly head and all, most of us are right there with you! Guest guest
Hi there! It is only my daughter's 2nd day in her DOC Band so I can't relate about the smell just yet.BUT, Olivia does have ezcema and thick hair so her dermatologist recommended Mustela foam shampoo for newborns. It is WONDERFUL! We use three pumps of foam and lather her head up and scrub a bit, then you leave it for a whole minute and then rinse. Her hair smells fabulous and it gets squeaky clean - it is also safe for children with excema and sensitive skin. We buy it at babiesrus. Also, we have been using it since she was a month old and still have 3/4 the bottle left. Also, have you tried the Aquafor infant cleanser for children with ezcema? It is soap free and we find it works better than the huggies hypo, we also use the Aquafor lotion.Hope that helps with the hair!Darcymom to Princess Olivia, 5 months, day 2 in DOC BandFrom: darbyd24 <darbyd24@...>Subject: Hair Smelling like dirty feet even after washing hairPlagiocephaly Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2009, 6:30 AM Saturday was Lincoln's first 23 hour on 1 hr off day. Guest guest
Yea we have been using the 70% cause thats what are store head at the time we got the star band and another mom told me she found the 91% worked best. I might have to try that. I did try taking it off and cleaning in the A.M while im dressing him and then obviously again at night the hour he gets it off but just seems to not be helping. We go for our one week follow up tomorrow so I will just ask him if there is anything else I can or should be doing to help out. It's bad enough not being able to snuggle like we used to and now to have him be stinky on top of the helmet issue isnt fun > > > > I'm assuming that you're cleaning the helmet with the alcohol. Guest guest
Did you clean the band? Clean it with 91% rubbing alcohol and let is dry in the sun. That should help. Also, I understand you not being able to switch shampoos... that is hard. But Suave makes alot of really good smelling ones that help mask the odor.
